Spot color separations are a design consisting of solid colors or line art with simple or tonal value or no tone, just solid spot only.
Simulated process separations are a photorealistic design, such as paintings, Photoshop or Illustrator art. Full color designs with color blending together, creating a spectrum of colors and tones.
Four color process separations are also a photorealistic design, only the design is separated into CMYK. Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black transparent inks. The transparency of the ink allows for the CMYK primary colors to create a wide gamut of color; generally printed on a white garment.

Designing in Photoshop or Illustrator, start off with the resolution set to no less than 300 ppi and up to 600 ppi. 300 ppi works perfectly when the color of the image blends without much line art. 600 ppi is preferable for hard edge line art with no blending or very little blending of colors.
It is best to work in layers, naming the layers clearly and understandably. When you supply the file to us, leave all layers and do not flatten the layers; this applies to both Photoshop and Illustrator.
Color settings for Photoshop can be ether CMYK or RGB. If working on a 1-12 color design it is best to set a color pallet of the 1-12 colors to be used; use those colors only. Illustrator however it is necessary to set the color settings to CMYK only, because black will not print to film at 100%, it prints around 90%, when set to RGB.
When exporting from Adobe Illustrator to Adobe Photoshop. We strongly recommend and prefer the following export settings.
Export CMYK, 600 ppi, Write Layers, Anti-aliasing “NONE”, Embed ICC Profile “ticked”
IMPORTANT, set the Anti-Aliasing to “NONE”. This allows the hard edge colors the have a razor sharp color to color edge with no fuzz of color to color. Making for a much cleaner color separation and final print on the garment.
